ABOUT ICSI
ICSI is a classification system for knowledge resources on Islam, revised and devised by the IIUM Library to replace the currently used Library of Congress Classification (LCC), subclass BP-Islam and KBP-Islamic law. It maps topics and subtopics befitting the supposed thesaurus-like arrangement of knowledge in Islam. It introduces subject headings appropriate to Islam.
A classification system on Islam is direly needed by the Muslim World which is capable to accommodate all main topics and popular subtopics in particular discipline befitting the supposed arrangement of knowledge in Islam for the existing collection and future development of literature on Islam and Islamic law. The classification system should grow as the number of knowledge resources on Islam dynamically increases.
This is one of the most pressing reasons why the IIUM Library resorts to devise its own classification system, with the main intention to build a comprehensive classification system for knowledge resources on Islam. IIUM, through its Library, had succeeded to produce the classification system and publish it via a book and web to be shared with the world.
